License agreements deal largely with breaches of confidentiality. Publication of personal information would result in researchers organisations being liable to prosecution but we have not had any cases of this since the establishment of the service so do not know how the censures would be managed in practice.

The University of Cape Town recently agreed to take a certain amount of financial responsibility for DataFirst, as a university-wide resource. We are funded by grant money so it is through the university taking greater responsibility for supporting our activities that we aim to provide for sustainability. Data resources are finally being seen as part of the University's intellectual assets, as indicated by our Research Office undertaking policymaking for research data management. Thus it is unlikely that an expert organisation such as DataFirst will not continue to be valued and supported financially by our parent body.

Our Secure Data Service gives researchers the opportunity to analyse sensitive restricted-access datasets usually not available for reuse. This includes person- and institution-level data or data at low levels of geography which is potentially disclosive, with the possibility of individual respondents being identified and this information published by researchers.  The SDS allows accredited researchers to use the data in a Secure Research Data Centre at the University of Cape Town.

The Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) is designed to provide detailed infrared properties of selected Galactic and extragalactic sources. The sensitivity of the telescopic system is about one thousand times superior to that of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS), since the ISO telescope enables integration of infrared flux from a source for several hours. Density waves in the interstellar medium, its role in star formation, the giant planets, asteroids, and comets of the solar system are among the objects of investigation.

DataDryad.org is a curated general-purpose repository that makes the data underlying scientific publications discoverable, freely reusable, and citable. Dryad is an international repository of data underlying peer-reviewed scientific and medical literature, particularly data for which no specialized repository exists. The content is considered to be integral to the published research. All material in Dryad is associated with a scholarly publication

Support organisation can be contacted at director@datadryad.org

Dryad performs basic checks on each submission (can the files be opened? Are they free of viruses? Are they free of copyright restrictions? Do they appear to be free of sensitive data?). The completeness and correctness of the metadata (e.g. information about the associated publication, the date on which any embargo is to be lifted, indexing keywords) are checked and the DOI is officially registered.

The data packages are discoverable and backed up for long-term preservation within the DataONE network. The information content of the original file is never intentionally modified or processed, but copies may be made in different file formats to facilitate preservation.

The data package is publicly released once the online version of the associated publication is available (unless an alternative release option has been selected), and the metadata are shared with indexing services to promote discoverability.

Due to the diversity of datatypes hosted by the repository, Dryad does not require a single file format, or even set of file formats, but rather encourages users to follow accepted community standards where they exist. Users are strongly encouraged to ensure that data can be easily extracted from the files provided (e.g., by using CSV rather than PDF). View additional guidance and a list of preservation-friendly file formats.

Dryad hosts research data underlying scientific and medical publications. Historically, the repository has been strongest in the life sciences. Most data in the repository is associated with peer-reviewed journal articles, but data associated with non-peer reviewed publications from other reputable sources (such as dissertations and books) is also accepted. At this time, all descriptive information must be in English.

Most types of files can be submitted (e.g., text, spreadsheets, video, photographs, software code) including compressed archives of multiple files. View additional guidance on preservation-friendly file types.

A Data Publishing Charge (DPC) of $90 needs to be paid.
Since a guiding principle of Dryad is to make its contents freely available for research and educational use, there are no access costs for individual users or institutions. Instead, Dryad supports its nonprofit mission by recovering costs up front.

Dryad collects a Data Publishing Charge (DPC) upon publication. The submitter is asked to commit to this charge at the time of submission, and is charged if the accompanying publication is accepted, unless

the associated journal, or another organization, has already contracted with Dryad to cover the DPC, or
the submitter is based in a country classified by the World Bank as a low-income or lower-middle-income economy.
To determine whether your DPC will be covered, look up your journal. If there is no payment plan or sponsor in place, the DPC is $80 for journals with integrated submission, and $90 for non-integrated journals.

Additional charges apply to data packages in excess of 10GB. $15 will be charged for the first GB over 10 and $10 for each additional GB or part thereof.

At this time, we are only able to accept credit cards in payment for DPCs (personal or institutional cards). We regret that we are currently unable to issue invoices for individual submissions.

a collection of computational models of disease and drug action that have been used in pharmaceutical and/or academic research.
The model repository will be made available as a public instance, but will be portable and developed under existing GPL-compatible licenses, allowing integration of private or customized versions within organizations.
The centrepoint of the DDMoRe strategy will be the development and promotion of a robust set of standards: one for model and workflow encoding, and another for storage and transfer of models, and related data based on a communal ontology-based metadata standard
The European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme contributes €1 billion to the IMI research programme. That amount is matched by in kind contributions worth at least another €1 billion from the pharmaceutical companies that are members of EFPIA, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations.

In the guidelines (Datanotitie Meertens Institute, http://www.meertens.knaw.nl/cms/images/stories/pdf/algemeen/Collectieplan.pdf, pp 58-61) the procedures about the (amongst other things) storage, publication and access of the data is formulated. Each deposit and the accompanying documentation are evaluated by the coordinator research collections.
Text; quantitative data; Images
The depositor deposits the data into the system and adds the related metadata. At the moment there is a minimal requirement of Dublin Core metadata (http://dublincore.org). When defining metadata fields in Dublin Core, we are guided as much as possible by the specifications of Qualified Dublin Core, see: http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-terms/. For publication within the CLARIN Infrastructure CLARIN CMDI is used (http://www.clarin.eu/node/3219).
As a prospective CLARIN centre the Meertens Institute adheres to the list of accepted formats and standards proposed by the CLARIN infrastructure (http://trac.clarin.nl/wiki/WikiStart#Formatsandstandards) and by DANS (http://www.dans.knaw.nl/sites/default/files/file/EASY/DANS%20preferred%20formats%20NL%20DEF.pdf).
The general terms and conditions are on our website, http://www.meertens.knaw.nl/cms/nl/collecties. A user has to agree to the possible restrictions in order to use the data. For online dataset the Meertens Institute does not carry out any checks if users comply.

The Meertens Institute has not lost any digital data and no bit corruption occurred. Once deposited, files in data sets are never changed. New versions of a file may be added and changes are recorded (except for cosmetic changes, such as correcting typographical errors). The coordinator research collections will monitor this process.
The Meertens Institute also complies with the 'Open Access' policies as stipulated by the KNAW (https://www.knaw.nl/en/topics/open-access-and-digital-preservation/open-access/overzicht?set_language=en).

When creating CMDI, each CMDI file either contains direct references to resource files or act as bundles of other CMDI files. CMDI files may be produced in two ways; either by generating CMDI files from an existing metadata set (mainly for existing data sets) or through custom tools specifically designed to meet the project's needs. An example of this approach can be found in the 'Gekaapte Brieven' project (http://www.gekaaptebrieven.nl/) or the 'Meertens Vragenlijsten' project (http://www.meertens.knaw.nl/vragenlijsten/), where easy to use editors are created producing CMDI. All metadata is customized to meet the requirements of the projects each deposit and the accompanying documentation are evaluated by the coordinator research collections. The technical compliance to CMDI is checked upon ingest.

Schijf Low Cost: € 0,96 GB/jaar. Back-up van data: € 1,17 GB/jaar

De Volkskrant. For each of the newspapers, data of two years (1950/1951 and 2002) are available. The articles were selected by topic (e.g. headline news, foreign news and sports). Special feature of the corpus is that both the presence of subjective elements in the articles and the presence of direct speech have been annotated. The subjective elements are annotated based on a set of lexical elements (subjectivity lexicon). As a result, the corpus is very useful to linguistically oriented researchers who are interested in diachrony and/or subjectivity and to communication scientists and media scholars who are interested in changing practices regarding the framing of coverage.
Dictionary of the Frisian Language (Woordenboek der Friese Taal)
The "Wurdboek fan de Fryske taal" is a scientific, descriptive dictionary containing about 120,000 entries. The dictionary articles provide information on the spelling, part of speech, pronunciation, inflection, etymology, meaning (illustrated with quotes), compositions and derivations of each keyword, along with idiomatic information (collocations, proverbs and figurative meanings).
DuELME-LMF (Lexicon Markup Framework)
DuELME is a lexicon of more than 5,000 Dutch multiple-word expressions. Expressions with the same syntactic pattern are divided into so-called Equivalence Classes, which makes it possible to integrate the lexicon with minimal manual effort into an NLP system. The lexicon has been developed within the framework of the IRME project. (Documentation.)
Language Portal (Taalportaal)
Taalportaal will create an online portal containing an exhaustive and fully searchable electronic reference of Dutch and Frisian phonology, morphology and syntax. Its content will be in English. The digital design of the portal enables interoperability between the linguistic categories of phonology, morphology and syntax on the one hand, and between the two languages on the other. The portal’s rich crosslinking will benefit these domains of research, which are now often studied in isolation. The Taalportaal project started in 2011 and runs until the end of 2015.
Namescape
Recent research has conclusively proven that names in literary works can only be put fully into perspective when studied in a wider context (landscape) of names either in the same text or in related material (the onymic landscape or “namescape”). Research on large corpora is needed to gain a better understanding of, for example, what is characteristic for a certain period, genre, author or cultural region. The data necessary for research on this scale simply does not exist yet. The project aims to fill the need by annotating a substantial amount of literary works with a rich tag set, thereby enabling the participating parties to perform their research in more depth than previously possible. Several exploratory visualization tools will help the scholar to answer old questions and uncover many more new ones, which can be addressed using the demonstrator.
NERD
NERD (Named Entity Recognition and Disambiguation) is a tool for tagging named entities in Dutch text. It tags persons, locations, organisations, events, products and miscellaneous entities, as described in the accompanying paper. The system was trained on the 1-million-word SoNaR-small corpus, which has publicly available named entity annotations.
OpenConvert
The OpenConvert tools convert to TEI from a number of input formats (alto, text, word, HTML). The tools are available as a Java command line tool, a web service and a web application.
OpenSoNaR
OpenSoNaR is an online system that allows for analyzing and searching the over 500 million word Dutch reference corpus SoNaR developed within the STEVIN programme under the aegis of the Dutch Language Union. It is the result of cooperation between INL, TiCC - Tilburg University and company De Taalmonsters, in CLARIN-NL Call 4 project OpenSoNaR. The system incorporates the texts and metadata of SoNaR-500 and SoNaR New Media corpora. The project's main aim was to facilitate the use of the SoNaR corpus by providing a user-friendly online interface, regardless of the user's personal computer expertise. User groups representing Linguistics, Media and Communication Studies, as well as Literary and Cultural Sciences have provided practical use cases on the basis of which the interface has been developed. The system is available here for use in research and educational and settings.
@PhilosTEI
This system offers an open source, web-based, user-friendly workflow from digital images of text to XML. This provides philosophers and other digital humanities scholars the opportunity to build their own text corpora and critical text editions. This workflow combines Tesseract for text layout analysis and Optical Character Recognition, and a multilingual version of TICCLops (Text-Induced Corpus Clean-up online processing system). TICCLops is also available as a separate web application/service. The current version accepts book pages or other documents in PDF, DjVU or TIFF format and delivers output in FoLiA and TEI XML format. The larger the corpus the system has access to, the better the quality of the correction. This is the result of better word statistics derivable from larger corpora. (Documentation: 2014-1; 2014-2.)
TICCLops
TICCLops (Text-Induced Corpus Clean-up online processing system) performs state-of-the art spelling correction and correction of errors due to Optical Character Recognition for 18 European languages and language varieties. It also transcribes diachronic text into a more modern version. As a spelling correction system it is unique in making principled use of the input text as source to find canonical word forms. This makes it much less domain sensitive than other systems, the domain is covered by the input text collection. The larger the background corpus the system has access to, the better the quality of the correction. The link gives access to the classic CLAM interface. A more modern and user-friendly version is available through the @PhilosTEI interface. (Documentation: 2014-1; 2014-2.)

Widely based on open standards; regular quality assessment vai Data Seal of Approval
The depositors themselves are responsible for compliance with any legal regulations in the area where the data is collected. Where required by national regulations the archive also signs contracts with national/regional institutions. All ethical issues are dealt with by using Codes of Conduct, such as the DOBES Code of Conduct for the DOBES part of the archive. The repository enables the depositors to restrict access to their resources at various levels. All distributed copies elsewhere are stored under the agreement that they are made available under the same access restrictions, if they are made available.

Archived resources preferentially make use of UNICODE; XML; generic models such as ISO LMF, ISOcat DCIF; RDF; XML-EAF; IMDI/CMDI; MPEG 2/1/4; mJPEG2000; JPEG/TIFF/ PNG; 48 kHz-16 bit linear PCM;
the depositor decides on access permissions; a code of conduct is available

The repository in principle makes the original deposited objects available in an unmodified way, if the objects were in one of the accepted file types and encodings. Additionally, lower quality distribution copies of audio and video recordings are made available. New versions of archived resources can be deposited, in which case the old versions will be moved to a version archive. Different versions of the same resource are not compared; we assume the depositor has good reasons for depositing a newer version. A new version of a resource will get a new persistent identifier; the old version will keep the original persistent identifier. Metadata can change if the depositor or archivist sees the need for that, in the case of errors or missing information. Changes to the metadata are currently not logged. All archived objects are linked to their metadata descriptions and are organized in hierarchical (or multi-rooted) tree structures to indicate relationships between objects and sets of objects. The tree structures can change if the depositors decide that this is necessary. The identities of the depositors are checked by means of a login and password when they deposit material online. Provenance metadata as to who made changes to the repository is currently only stored in log files and not shown to the data consumer.

MD5 checksums are calculated for all objects and checked periodically. The availability of files on the file system is checked automatically daily. The availability of the archive access tools is checked automatically multiple times a day. The availability of file, web and application servers is monitored continuously. New versions of archived resources can be deposited, in which case the old versions will be moved to a version archive. In the future these old versions will also be made available to the end users but this is currently not yet the case.

3. Analysis, 4. Preservation
TLA has an explicit mission to archive language resources from all around the world, both collected by associated researchers as well as researchers who are not affiliated with the federated organisations. The mission is upported by the official possibility to store full copies at two computer centers at different locations for which the president of the Max Planck Society gives an institutional backing of 50 years of bit-stream preservation. working on duplicating the archive access framework in those backup locations as well, such that access to the data can be provided even if our institute would cease to exist.
Linguistics
DuringThe Language ArchiveThe Language Archive
Metadata is openly available. Log in is required to download data files.
Not necessary; researchers from applicable fields may deposit their linguistics data
In order to be better able to support the proper handling of these moral and/or juridical rights, TLA has implemented four levels of access:

1. Open resources can be accessed immediately.
2. Restricted open resources can be accessed by registered users which possibly (as in the case of DOBES) have to agree with a Code of Conduct.
3. In addition to the conditions that hold for restricted resources, protected resources can be accessed on request only. The responsibles (usually the depositors) will examine the request and, if they grant access, they may do so for a specific use or limited amount of time, which may have to be agreed upon in a usage declaration.
4. Some sensitive “closed” resources can be accessed only by the depositors (and, e.g., members of the respective speech community).
We urge all researchers, institutions and individuals that are in the possession of such data: please do seriously consider the need for a long-term preservation plan in order to assure that these data will be available for future generations.

The repository provides various ways of utilizing the archived data via online tools as well as by downloading the data in formats commonly used by the research communities. An advanced metadata search utility is provided, as well as a deep search tool for textual content. All metadata can be harvested via the OAI-PMH protocol. Unique persistent identifiers according to the Handle system are provided for each archived object.

"DANS is in overleg met de archeologische community over doorberekening van de opslag kosten. Deze kosten zijn gelijk aan die van EASY:

De kosten die DANS rekent voor data in EASY (excl. BTW):
- Opslag van data (toegankelijk via EASY): € 1,44 GB/jaar.
- Archivering van data (niet toegankelijk via EASY): € 0,48 GB/jaar.
- Back-up van data: € 1,14 GB/jaar.

DANS rekent een afkoopbedrag van 5 maal de jaarprijs ineens. Voor permanente toegang via EASY met backup rekent DANS dus eenmalig: (1,44 + 1,14) * 5 = €12,90/GB
